Ladd's Addition is the oldest planned residential development in Portland and one of the oldest in the western United States located in Portland's inner southeast historic district. Conveniently located only about ten minutes from downtown Portland and within walking distance to restaurants Portland's most heavily forested inner-city neighborhood attracts residents that are active in protecting their neighborhood and are engaged in ensuring sustainability. This historic neighborhood was developed as a Victorian, streetcar-era neighborhood and has been preserved to keep that look since its infancy in 1891. Ladd's Addition has so much history to share with residents and visitors.
The Ladd Circle Park and Rose Gardens offer a beautiful and peaceful stroll through 3,000 roses and 60 different varieties. This park truly coincides with the neighborhood's historic beauty and preservation of what once was. Piccolo City Park offers paved paths, a playground and Public Art for visitors to enjoy.
The uniquely designed diagonal street pattern cuts down on traffic congestion for commuters travelling by car, but walking or biking is also a viable option. Ladd's Addition has plenty of restaurants and shopping all within close reach making foot traffic more appealing. TriMet offers bus service throughout Ladd's Addition and surrounding areas for extra convenience. Aside from sidewalks, enhancements have been made to offer biking boulevards to promote safety and encourage an alternative to driving a car to your destination. Some of the more historic streets have been preserved with the date imprinted on the corner of the sidewalk indicating the date of the original construction. There are even places with horse tethering rings and buggy wheel curb protectors on some streets.
Schools in Ladd's Addition
The Portland Public School District offers public schools to the residents of Ladd's Addition. According to Greatschools.org, La Monde French Immersion Public Charter School for children K-5 was given a rating of 8/10, Abernethy Elementary School and Hosford Middle School were both given a rating of 6/10 and Cleveland High School was given a 5/10 rating. Each of these schools were given an average or above average rating available to the students of Ladd's Addition.
