Living in the Sumner Neighborhood

The name ‘Sumner’ comes from the former name of Helensview High School at NE 87th and NE Sumner. It used to be Sumner elementary school in the Parkrose School District. Sumner is in the upper northeast corner along I-205 and Columbia Blvd. This neighborhood has easy access to these major thoroughfares including Sandy Blvd. The homes here are modest and affordable. The neighborhood is going through transitions with their strong neighborhood association, SAN. They are also supported by Central Northeast Neighbors.

The neighborhood park is Sacajawea. It is a dog friendly park with an off-leash dog area that encompasses the entire park. The park has the look and feel of someone’s back yard. It’s secluded and fenced on nearly three sides. It is tucked away from any busy streets in a residential area and next to a school of the same name. It has some trees on it’s perimeter but still open enough for a good game of fetch.

Schools: Helensview Elementary, Scott Elementary

Parks: Sacajawea Park, The Grotto, Wellington Park
