The Madison South neighborhood is just east of Rose City Park and Roseway and bordered by I-84 to the south. Portland real estate in this neighborhood is a picturesque mix of restored bungalows, ranch styles as well as recent contemporary construction homes.
While Madison South neighborhood is quietly residential, it enjoys proximity to shopping. The Safeway on N.E. Sandy and 72nd is convenient for everyday groceries. On N.E. Sandy and 72nd Ave., you find the historic Fairley’s Pharmacy Coffee Shop and Soda Fountain, which has been locally owned and operated since 1913.
Parks and green spaces in Madison South include the 17-acre Rocky Butte Natural Area and Hancock Park with playground and picnic tables, and Glenhaven Park. Glenhaven includes baseball and soccer fields, picnic tables, playground, and tennis courts. But its standout feature is an 11,000 square-foot skate park.
In addition to the Lloyd Center movie theaters, Northeast Portland has a number of independently owned theaters. Among them are the restored 1920s Hollywood Theater on N.E. Sandy Blvd and 41st Ave and the restored Roseway Theater at N.E. Sandy and 72nd Ave., which shows first run movies.
