Living in Lake Oswego
Just 8 miles south of Portland, the affluent suburb of Lake Oswego has successfully maintained a small-town community feel with a historic downtown area. The shops, restaurants and services along First Street attract visitors from both Portland and nearby suburbs. The Oswego Lake is naturally occurring, a former channel of the Tualatin River, but has been significantly altered because of a concrete dam that increased its size to 395 acres.
Lake Oswego is commonly compared to a resort town with the beautiful hills and trees, the winding roads surrounded by forest, the sweet shops and restaurants with a view. It is obvious that this town takes pride in their community, throughout the town sits benches to take a rest and the view, restaurants have outdoor patios and seating, decorated with flowers and art give this town just the perfect touch to add that pop of color and beauty to an already gorgeous town. In Downtown Lake Oswego you will find Tryon Creek Park offering tons of trails to enjoy nature. Below the town, also in Downtown Lake Oswego there is also a fun park to take your family, George Rogers Park. This park is on the Willamette River, right where the Lake drains into the river. George Rogers Park offers plenty of fun in the water or out of the water with a sandy beach to sit in the sun and take in the spectacular view or keep an eye on your kids or take a swim in the river, kayak, paddleboard or go on a float trip on the river.
Lake Oswego real estate is known for prestigious lakefront properties and a number of architecturally significant homes. The Carl C. Jantzen Estate, a Tudor-style estate on the National Register of Historic Places, was built on an island on the lake's north shore by the founder of the Jantzen swimwear company in 1930. In addition, the lakeshore features homes by noted Portland architects such as Richard Sundeleaf and Van Evera Bailey.
