These Are the Things You Should Ask Your Realtor About


    If you want to know whether an agent will be the right fit to represent you,
    there are certain things 
    you need to ask them about before hiring them.

    There are over 10,000 Realtors in the Portland area, so whether you are a buyer or a seller, you need to make sure you partner with an experienced agent. You should work with someone who can sell your home quickly and for top dollar, or who can help you find and negotiate on the perfect home.

    To find this quality of representation, here is what you need to ask each agent about whenever you interview one:

    1. What kind of experience they have. Just because a broker has kept a real estate license for a long time does not mean they are experienced. Knowing how many homes they have sold during that time is a more important indicator of their experience.

    2. How many homes they have sold. It does not matter if it is during the last month, last year, or the year before that. Also, ask where the majority of those homes were sold and if they are similar to yours. This will give you a good idea of whether they are astute negotiators in situations that are similar to yours.

    3. What their marketing plans are. If you are selling your home, this information is critical. Any agent can put a home on the MLS and stick a “For Sale” sign in its front yard, but a good agent will prospect for buyers for your home every day. They will also have big marketing budgets for online advertising, website development, reverse targeting, etc.

     

    Just because a broker has kept a real estate license for

    a long time does not mean they are experienced.

     

    The agent you work with should be actively and aggressively looking for buyers in order to get your home sold. Typically, most brokers do not write offers for their own properties, and they may not even bring a single buyer to physically look at your property. Our team, on the other hand, brought offers for 30% of our own properties last year. That is a huge number, and it happened because we were actively and aggressively looking for buyers for our properties.

    Additionally, if you are a buyer looking for a specific property, you will want to work with a buyer agent who has the same qualities as a listing agent. This is because there’s not a lot of inventory in our market. For our buyers, we sometimes find properties that are no longer on the market or not yet on the market and partner with the owners of those properties. This way, our buyers can find their dream home without having to compete against other buyers in the open market.
