Living in The Highland Hills Neighborhood 

Highland Hills neighborhood is sometimes referred to as Hyland.  Suburban traditional and classic homes on tree lined streets in planned developments is to be expected in many Beaverton neighborhoods. It is about 20-25 minutes to Downtown Portland on Hwy 217. The unique thing about living in Beaverton is that you can walk to a park from nearly every neighborhood.  The Highland neighborhood is what would be considered an established area with larger lots, and homes that have mature landscaping.

Living in Highland Hills

The neighborhood of Highland Hills sits just south of Downtown Beaverton and only about a twenty minute drive from Downtown Portland.This community is made up of 79 unattached homes, broken down into two sections. South of Hart Road, there are twenty-two homeowners that own their home and their property surrounding their home, these homes make up the section known as Section 8. North of Hart Road are the remaining 57 unattached homes, known as Section 7, the homeowners have common areas surrounding their homes. What is unique about this area, the common area makes up a park which each homeowner owns 1/79 share of the park which is written in their deed. 

The Highland Hills Homeowners Association was established to maintain the community pool and the clubhouse. They are able to keep the fees that are paid by the homeowners low due to the volunteers that support their community. The dues that are paid to the association, allows for the residents to enjoy the community pool as long as their dues are up to date. Fees are used by the association to keep the pool, grounds and homes in good repair to sustain their home values. 

Things to do in Highland Hills

Cooper Mountain Nature Park is a 231-acre nature park that opened in 2009 offering 3 1/2 miles of nature trails for a wonderful experience through forests, prairie to oak woodlands. Amazing, grand views of the Chehalem Mountains, close-up looks at Oregon white oaks and a small prairie. Jenkins Estate is an historic home that was built with the intention of being a summer home sitting on 68-acres, now owned by Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District. The estate has now been renovated and is now open for self-guided tours of the stables and wooded grounds. Progress Lake to enjoy a day of fishing or taking a walk around the lake. Another great option is Washington Park offering the Oregon Zoo, Portland's Children Museum, the Japanese Gardens and more. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining and entertainment right in the very community, so residents don't have to go very far.

 There are several shopping options in or around Highland Hills. Hyland Hills Shopping Center, Beaverton Town Square and Cedar Hills Crossing all offer a variety of shopping options for everyday needs. There is also Downtown Beaverton that offers a more unique shopping experience. Downtown Portland is a little further away but can also provide more selective shopping options and a chance for a change in scenery.
